Griffon Bleu from Gascogne, from France, an excellent and homegrown hound dog which shares the same canine group with dogs by blood trail. He was born and remains an animal devoted to hunting, lover of open spaces and nature, in the first half of the twentieth century, was doing well, in terms of popularity, it was highly appreciated, especially in the regions south-west of its homeland, while today there are not many examples around. In Italy, there are some breeding, therefore it's not as rare as it seems.
Griffon Bleu de Gascogne: characteristics
The physicist of the Griffon Bleu de Gascogne it is typical of French dogs and highlights the fact that it was born from the fusion of two other breeds that we will then discover. Among medium-sized dogs the Griffon Bleu de Gascogne is among the smallest, has a height at the withers that varies according to the standard, between 43 and 52 cm.
Its appearance is undoubtedly rustic, being beyond all a good boar hunter. It therefore has a robust and resistant body, the trunk is not squat but certainly not slender and it is low limbs. The front ones are strong and wide while the hind ones with very well muscled thighs, all four feet are round and compact. Rounded ribs, elongated back, the Griffon Bleu de Gascogne it is small and well built, with a rather long and slightly curved tail, thinner and thinner up to its tip.
The head of this dog has a convex shape, it is broad and oval but less than that of the "Grand bleu de Gascogne". The stop is not very marked and the muzzle continues straight with little developed lips and an always black nose. In the neck it can appear a kind of dewlap, even if it is thin, the ears, set low, are partially covered with hair and the eyes appear golden brown, with a particularly lively expression.

In Italy there are 3 farms of Griffon Bleu de Gascogne certified by ENCI and reported on the official website of the Body. One is located in Emilia Romagna, in the Modena area, another near Mantua, in Lombardy, and the third indicated is in the Marche, in Fermo.

When we look for a puppy of Griffon Bleu de Gascogne, having found the breeding that convinces us most and, possibly, having visited the place where our future four-legged life partner is growing up, we can ask ourselves the problem of color. For this breed we are in choose between black and white.
Not only clear colors, however, because often there are specimens that have a coat with a white background entirely flecked with black that creates a particular slate blue effect. Tan may also appear, while to the touch the hair is dry and rough, not very long but adherent to the body. On the chest and thighs areas with wavy hair may appear, it is instead shaved on the head but sprouting thick eyebrows of a wise and experienced hound.

His disposition is, as it should be, bold and very proud, he is a intelligent and easily trained dog when it comes to learning to hunt. A specimen of Griffon Bleu de Gascogne it can have a price around 500 euros, at a farm. On line there are also offers with half figures, but it is good to always check carefully and, in general, contact farms that ENCI recommends, it is the best way to find a healthy puppy. Of this breed like all the others, this one in particular has rather smoky origins, but it almost certainly derives from the same dogs that then gave birth to the "Blue basset": The"Grand Bleu de Gascogne”.
