Dandie Dinmont Terrier, a small dog with a very cheerful and intelligent appearance, coming from Great Britain and with a characteristic weasel body. Maximum 25 cm high at the withers, this English dog weighs from 8 to 11 kg medium and it is important that it does not become too heavy: it could suffer from pain in the limbs and difficulty in moving, especially in old age. The Dandie Dinmont Terrier it has a light but strong trunk, with well sprung and round ribs and short and muscular limbs, well developed thighs which give it a determined, flowing and free gait.
If the tail of this dog is short and thick, the weasel-shaped head on the other side of the body appears wide and with developed jaw muscles. In addition to the classic hair that covers it, it also shows a curious tuft, the Nose is very broad and black, impossible not to notice. From the skull, hanging and distant from each other, the ears emerge and then adhere to the cheeks in a composed way, the eyes are round and never prominent, usually of a intense hazelnut color.

Compared to the past, when it was a great hunter, with a gritty heart, today this Dandie Dinmont Terrier he is more calm, he has learned good manners and with his master he is even affectionate and docile. It remains an independent dog and, above all, to be taken often for walks, not just to do soentire alive, free and adventurous, but also for avoid becoming obese.

In addition to being a member, with many other breeds, of the Terrier group, the Dandie Dinmont Terrier it also belongs to its first dedicated club, founded in 1875, shortly after the first two specimens were entered in the register of the Kennel Club of London and the breed took hold. In truth it is not very widespread, not even at home, despite having a name that should bring him some notoriety.
Dandie Dinmont Terrier is in fact taken from the writings of Walter Scott, author of "Ivanhoe", Unbeknownst to him, the protagonist of one of his stories gave the name to this Terrier which is thus the only one on the face of the earth so far not to be called as its region of origin.
The origins of this Scottish dog are to be found in the crosses made by local hunters who wanted a brave, tenacious and at the same time discreet animal. The selection work began already in the early seventeenth century, on the farms of the area, also involving specimens of the "Rothbury Forest Dog ", progenitor of the current "Bedlington". There are those who think that even the "German Dachshund" is in our blood Dandie Dinmont Terrier but there are no documents about it.

In Italy, ENCI reports on its website only a specialized breeding for Dandie Dinmont Terrier and it's in the Viterbo area, it's called Sunjoy's. There may be other facilities that hold specimens of this breed, along with other Terriers, but it's not certainly easy to find a dog of these in Italy.

If it is difficult to find a specimen of Dandie Dinmont Terrier, even more difficult to estimate the price, it remains therefore a dog to know but not to be stubborn to look for when there are many others much easier to have.
