How to choose the refrigerator:guide to choosing the refrigerator. All assessments to be made before purchase.

The fridge undoubtedly it represents one of the fundamental appliances in a home. Everyone has one in their own home and we can say, without exaggerating, that it is an indispensable appliance. For the “never without it” series. Yet not all refrigerators on the market are the same, today there is really a wide choice. Technology lovers should aim for the new wifi fridges.

We are talking about an appliance that has numerous features and each model has its own specific characteristics. If you enter a shopping center you are assailed by a thousand doubts, do not despair, it is absolutely normal. How to choose a refrigerator it is in fact the question that everyone should ask themselves before buying.

Guide to choosing the refrigerator

When buying a refrigerator, we must have in mind what our needs are: only in this way will we be able to buy a refrigerator that is better suited to our lifestyle and that of the family.

Surely there are parameters that must be considered: capacity, that is, considering that a family of 3 people will have different needs than a family of seven members; the type of refrigerator, that is single door, double door refrigerator or the combined one, undoubtedly the most widespread.

Another important parameter concerns the cooling system. Here too there is a difference, in the results and in the final costs. For example, there is the classic cooling which takes place through a special gas that is pushed by the compressor into the refrigerant circuit; or there is the ventilated cooling, that is by means of an internal fan that allows for a constant temperature; or the brand new no frost systems where cold is produced by forced circulation of cold air.

Refrigerator energy label

The energy classes should not be underestimated. Today on the market there are refrigerators belonging to energy classes A, A + and A ++. To date, by law it is no longer possible to build appliances in energy class D, E, F, G and of course the higher the energy class, the lower the consumption. Maybe in the initial phase the costs will be higher, but they can be amortized in the bill within a few months.

How to choose the refrigerator

There is no doubt: the refrigerator is chosen according to your needs. Size, for example, is chosen based on the people in the house. If you live alone, a 100-150 liter refrigerator will suffice; on the contrary, if the family is larger, a refrigerator with a capacity of 280 liters will be needed. The rule is one: a large but empty fridge is just a waste of money and energy. There is no escape from this principle.

How much space is needed

It is then necessary to consider how much space is needed, that is, the environment in which the refrigerator will be placed. In this case it will be necessary to check the capacity and size of the refrigerator. If the kitchen is small, perhaps a small refrigerator is for you: they generally have a depth of less than 60 cm, are single-door and have a freezer area at the top. If space is not a problem, there are models on the market with greater depths and widths greater than 70 cm. In this case, the height can fluctuate between 80 cm and 2 meters of large combined refrigerators.

Noisy refrigerator and no frost system

We hear more and more often about refrigerators with the no frost system. These are latest generation refrigerators made to combat the problem of frost. This occurs thanks to a particular form of ventilation by means of channels that prevents the formation of ice on the shelves and on the internal walls of the refrigerator.

No frost systems can be either total, i.e. they concern all parts of the refrigerator including the freezer, or partial where the no frost system is applied only to the part dedicated to the freezer.

THE no frost refrigerators they emit particular noises due to the automatic melting of the ice: the heating elements in operation cause some pieces of ice to come off causing noise when they fall. In general, it is a good idea to pay attention to noises coming from the appliance that can be a real alarm bell.

Refrigerator engine noise and continuous noise

The most classic noise of refrigerators is a kind of hum: there may be problems with the compressor not perfectly fixed to the frame. If, on the other hand, the refrigerator vibrates continuously, it is necessary to check its verticality and that it is well welded to the ground with its four feet. In this case there could also be contact with another piece of furniture or with the wall.

If the noise coming from the refrigerator is similar to a gurgling, there is actually nothing to worry about as this noise occurs with the circulation of gas in the refrigerant circuit. Same thing if you hear a rustle that stands out particularly in no-frost refrigerators: it is simply the fan that circulates the air. Therefore, before calling for help, it is good practice to make sure that the noises are not natural.
