How to choose the toothbrush: electric or conventional and above all, which model is best suited to your teeth. Factors to evaluate and advice.

Oral hygiene should never be neglected, never! THEteethare irreplaceable and that ofcavityit is an irreversible process that will force you to have fillings or implants. Yeah, theoral cariesthere is no cure, there is only prevention which consists in good oral hygiene.

How to choose the toothbrush

Essential factors for proper oral hygiene is thechoice of toothbrush. Today, on the market, we findtoothbrushof all sorts, electric or manual, with rotary or pulsating movements, with rigid, soft or rubberized bristle heads…! In short, the choice is really wide and understand what it can bebest toothbrushfor your needs it's not that easy. It was difficult for me too and that's why I really asked my dentist for advice! :)

Electric or manual toothbrush?

Let's start with the first question: better an electric or manual toothbrush? To answer you, I will leave aside ipros and conspurely economic. It is well known that the purchase and management cost of an electric toothbrush is higher!

Have you ever tried asking your dentist? Of course, it's easier to type the question on google and maybe hope that some dental technician has an answer to a question posted on Yahoo….! But ... at the next visit, try to talk to your dentist!

My dentist's answer was clear: itelectric toothbrushit is better just because it cleans faster and, with the same time invested in washing, employing one electric toothbrush you end up with cleaner teeth because they are brushed several times!

So, if you have a lot of time to devote to oral hygiene, you can choose a manual toothbrush because with the right movements and brushing for at least 3 minutes, you will end up with the same result as using an electric toothbrush.

Does the electric toothbrush ruin your teeth?
If you are wondering, no! It is not true that the electric toothbrush ruins the teeth. Rather anyone who has very sensitive gums, which often bleed, should adopt onebrushwith softer bristles.

If my dentist gave me "green light" for itelectric toothbrush, on the other hand, he advised me against water flossers or accessories to clean the tongue… for this, mouthwash is enough.

Which electric toothbrush to choose

There are on the market electric toothbrushes with different movements. From circular ones to vertical movements that simulate the natural movement we perform with the manual toothbrush.

So which is the best electric toothbrush?
In fact, both movements are effective for removing debris and cleaning the teeth and interdental spaces. Speed makes the difference.

The cheapest ones guarantee a speed of 3,000 - 4,500 rpm while the most expensive ones make 9,000 rpm. For the more recently introduced vertical oscillation movements, we are talking about a cleaning efficiency that reaches 62,000 movements per minute. More movements = more cleanliness.

That's the number of movements that make the price of an electric toothbrush! For now the best manufacturers of electric toothbrushes are OralB and Philips. Of the two, I personally prefer Philips which in the newer models allows 30,000 movements per minute with the Philips Sonicare HX9332 toothbrush.

Warning! The purchase package speaks of 62,0000 movements, in fact in every minute the toothbrush exercises 62,000 movements on the tooth but in a synergistic way: the brushes are "only" 31,000 (oscillations) while the rest of the movements (more than 30,000) are pulsations, that is, the toothbrush exerts a certain pressure to reach the spaces between the teeth and even under the gums… a real godsend for those who insist on NOT using the precious dental floss.

The only sore point is the price. The Philips Sonicare HX9332 electric toothbrush (considered the best even with the Altroconsumo tests) has an average cost of about 200 euros. On Amazon you can buy it at the promotional price of 163.99 euros with free shipping.

For all information, I refer you to the official page: Philips Sonicare HX9332. Two spare heads, then, can be bought with 14 euros.

Can tooth decay be treated?

Filling is a drastic and dramatic way to cure tooth decay but it is also the only way we have to stop this process. Although ... there are those who claim that thethymol, an active ingredient contained in the essential oil of thyme, is able to stop tooth decay with strong effectiveness. It is no coincidence that this active ingredient is also present in various mouthwashes such as Listerine.

For optimal teeth cleaning, remember to use dental floss! You can do this by following my tips:how to use dental floss.
