Red and black bedbug: we are talking about red and black insects that can infest the garden or reach our homes. Insect remedies, pictures and description.
There are several red and black insectsthat can attack the garden. On this page we will examine two of them, one from the same family as the green bug and the other from the Pyrrhocoridae family. In both cases we are talking about the order of the Rincoti (heteropterans).
Let's start with the red and black insect in the photo above. This is an adult's Graphosoma italicum, a pentatomid hemipterus which by its shape is very similar to the green bedbug.
It is characterized by its red color, with black longitudinal stripes and black legs. In reality, there are two subspecies of Graphosoma italicum very similar in shape, size and color but the legs change which, in the second subspecies, are orange / red.
The dimensions are slightly smaller than the cousin of theNezara viridula(green bug): the red and black bedbugit is about 8-12 mm large.
This Rossoneri bug, like Nezara viridula, can cause damage to various crops in the garden. The adult, in fact, has a pungent-sucking mouth apparatus and feeds on numerous cultivated and wild species.
In the garden, we can find it a little on all crops, especially on umbellifers such as carrot, celery, parsley ... Despite its food preferences, I advise against interveningpesticide treatmentsas massive infestations are very rare.
The photo above shows the coupling between two black and red Graphosoma italicum insects. The Nymph, unlike the adult specimens, is clear. It has a more rounded and stocky shape, the antennae are brown and not black, moreover the body is brown with dark gray streaks.
Due to their greater voracity and reproductive speed, green bedbugs are much more harmful than red kitchens.
With the common nameblack red bedbug, in reality another insect is identified. This is the species visible above: Pyrrhocoris apterus.
The black red bug (Pyrrhocoris apterus), also commonly called carabiniera, is a heteropterous insect with an oval and flat shape. It is immediately recognized by the bright red color and the geometric shapes distributed on the body. The geometric shapes present on the body of theRossoneri bugthey are linked to abiotic factors such as temperature.
The length of this insect is between 8-12 mm. The wings and elytra can develop fully or partially and for this reason some specimens can fly and others not.
These red black insects feed mainly on plant sap and seeds. In the home garden they can attack ornamental plants such as hibiscus, mallow, lime trees and oleanders. They also attack oaks, hazelnuts and other plants but they pose no threat because they do no harm.
There are two other insects very similar to theRossoneri bug but they differ in particular differences of the black spots on the body. Let's talk about the Rossoneri insects:
- Scantius aegyptius
- Corizus hyoscyami
Despite the similarity they belong to different families.
Red and black insects, how to eliminate them
As stated, the twoRossoneri bedbugsthey are not particularly harmful to the garden. Only in case of massive infestations can they cause damage to the plant, so I advise you to intervene only in special cases.
Only when the plants infested him Rossoneri insectsthey begin to show leaves with localized necrosis and desiccation of different degrees (caused by trophic stings) it is advisable to intervene.
Among the various remedies for the Rossoneri bedbugs it is possible to exploit a natural insecticide allowed in organic farming, I am talking about Pyrethrum.
Remember that pyrethrum before being anatural pesticideit is a plant extract, so its effectiveness is short-term (repeated treatments will be necessary in close turn).
The pyrethrum should be used in the evening time slots, when temperatures are lower and there is no sun. In fact, pyrethrum, being a natural extract, tends to deactivate itself with the sun because its active ingredient is photosensitive. Apply it when the sun goes down so it will have the opportunity to act throughout the night.
Pyrethrum, before being an insecticide, is a plant, so it naturally degrades within a couple of days so the crop can be consumed in complete safety. It can also be used lightly on ornamental plants.
How to use? You can buy the ready-to-use spray or concentrated spray form (cheaper). Generally, it is necessary to dilute 14-25 ml of product in 10 liters of water in order to have a greater yield and more convenience in large-scale treatments.
The price is 16.81 euros with shipping costs included and, again, for all the information, I refer you to the product sheet: Bayer Pyrethrum actigreen (Bio).
Pyrethrum is also effective against:
2. crop bugs and green bed bugs
4. myrides as the vector of the mosaic virus
6. white fly
7. aphids and other plant lice
9. common fly
