Fusariosis, mainly affects ornamental plants and those found in the garden, no matter what age they are: young or adult must consider it a danger. It is a fungal disease, favored by hot-humid climates or by the presence of water stagnation. Also poor or infected soil can lead to the onset of fusarium disease as well as the recycling of infected containers.

Tomato fusariosis

One of plants most affected is that of the tomato. If it is not treated, it dies, a real problem for those who have a vegetable garden but especially for those who grow tomatoes in large quantities and who can see a large income fade.

Usually when the sick plant, the leaves begin to turn yellow, then they are affected by necrosis and fall off prematurely. However, another phenomenon can also occur: epinasty that makes you bend down the leaf blade. As symptoms become more evident, the risk of death of the entire plant increases and not just the compromised leaves.

Wheat fusariosis

When fusarium affects wheat, causes the drying of the ears and you notice it because while a part of the ear remains green, the diseased part becomes lighter. As maturation progresses, this symptom is less and less noticeable, which makes the disease even more dangerous. When fusarium is severe, leads to partial or total desiccation e it can even involve the whole ear and the terminal part of the culm.

Wheat fusariosis

When a wheat field is hit by an attack of fusarium there is always a significant loss of production, the ears are also reduced in size, and have a much smaller specific unit weight. Besides that, it also has a quality problem, in fact the grain expires, with a consequent alteration of the lipid fraction and a reduction of the protein fraction. Sick wheat has less vigorous seeds and accumulates mycotoxins.

Fusariosis carnation

There are various ornamental plants affected by the problem, one of the most endangered is that of the carnation but it is in fragrant company. With cyclamen, carnation, chrysanthemum and bulbous plants ... And if we also want to list the vegetable companions in misfortune, we find lettuce at the top of the list, in addition to those already mentioned. Even with vegetable plants such as carnation, fusarium is manifested by neck rot, yellowing of the leaves and necrosis of the stems.

Fusariosis: how to fight it

Before we had few weapons to fight it, everything changed when strains were discovered that were unable to cause disease to the plant but only to colonize its roots. This allowed the experts to study how to fight fusarium in a biological way and to control it while also allowing it to be prevented. We can already say that a correct use of fertilizers and the right amount of water makes plants more resistant to this disease.

Fusariosis: natural remedies

Another trick that can be useful for protect our plants from this pathology is to use high quality substrates. It also serves to maintain proper pH and proper cleaning, without recycling the containers until after having disinfected them.
